To ensure a smooth and convenient experience for millions of devotees attending the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj, the Uttar Pradesh government and transport authorities have unveiled an extensive travel plan. This includes enhanced bus, rail, and air connectivity, along with user-friendly services to cater to pilgrims' diverse needs.

Enhanced Rail Connectivity

Prayagraj is served by eight key stations: 
  1. Prayagraj Junction (PYJ) 
  2. Prayagraj Rambagh (PRRB) 
  3. Prayagraj Sangam (PYG) 
  4. Prayag Junction (PRG) 
  5. Naini Junction (NYN) 
  6. Prayagraj Chheoki (PCOI) 
  7. Phaphamau Junction (PFM) 
  8. Jhansi (JI) 

Announcements will be made in 12 regional languages at NCR railway stations, including Prayagraj Junction. 

Railway employees proficient in multiple languages will take charge of announcements during the Mahakumbh.
'Kumbh Rail Seva 2025' App: Pilgrims can use this app to access: 
  1. Train schedules and ticket bookings. 
  2. Navigation from stations to the Mela site. 
  3. Details of amenities, events, and cultural highlights. 

Special Train Services: Direct trains, including Rajdhani, Vande Bharat, and regional express services, connect Prayagraj to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai.

 Air Travel Accessibility

Prayagraj Airport: Situated 13 km from the city, it offers direct flights from major hubs like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Hyderabad. 

Nearby Airports: Additional connectivity is available through:

  2. Lucknow Airport (4 hrs 53 mins) 
  3. Ayodhya Airport (4 hrs) 
  4. Kanpur Airport (3 hrs 46 mins)

Free Shuttle Bus Services
  1. Fleet of 350 Buses: UPSRTC will operate 350 new shuttle buses featuring the Maha Kumbh logo, offering free rides during peak bathing days. 
  2. Eco-Friendly Transit: A total of 200 electric buses will supplement the transport system, supporting sustainability goals. 
  3. Temporary Bus Terminals: Eight specialized terminals equipped with maintenance workshops have been established within the Mela grounds. 
  4. Expanded Operations: The service will begin with 2,000 buses in the first phase and scale up to over 7,000 during major events, including 6,800 general-category and 200 AC buses. 
  5. Professional Oversight: Operations will be monitored by a team of 22 officers, supported by experienced retired officials acting as consultants.

Comprehensive Road Network

State and National Highways: Prayagraj is well-connected via an extensive road network. 
State-Run Bus Services: Regular UPSRTC buses operate from Delhi, Varanasi, Lucknow, Kanpur, Jhansi, and nearby towns. 

Private Operators: Pilgrims can access flexible services through platforms like RedBus, Yatra, and MakeMyTrip. 

Temporary Bus Stations: Key locations include: 
  1. Jhusi 
  2. Saraswati Dwar 
  3. Beli/Bela Kachchar 
  4. Nehru Park 
  5. Saraswati Hi-Tech City 
  6. Leprosy
